Cultivating colors and plant knowledge from local and medicinal plants….
Join Melissa and LeAnn for another hands-on workshop featuring one of our favorite local end of summer herbs, Goldenrod! This will be a full day immersion, with lots of hands-on activities. Come revel with us in the multitudes of Goldenrod: the medicinal properties, benefits for human health, role in the ecosystem, and the vibrant pigment as an art medium.

Class size is limited to 20, don’t delay registering!
What students get:
* A hike/plant walk to see Goldenrod in the wild!
* Hands on workshop- making Goldenrod things!
* Learn about and make ink and paint, includes a detailed handout on the process
* Take home ink and paint samples
* Learn about and make Goldenrod Oxymel and take it home.
* Information about the Goldenrod: how to prepare, uses, harvests etc. including a detailed handout with more information.
* Time to play and paint with Goldenrod (and other local colors too!)
SCHEDULE:
8am SHARP- Meet at San Felasco- mountain bike parking lot- we will send everyone GPS coordinates and a detailed map the day before workshop. But if you google the address above it will take you there.
8:15-8:30 am- Hike to location
8:30-10:30 am- Meditation with Goldenrod led by LeAnn, Goldenrod plant talk lesson following. Pollinator pathways drawing session led by Mel.
10:30-11:00am- Hike back
11:00AM- Head back to Working Food
11:30 am- Arrive at Working Food- eat Snack/lunch
12:00-12:30pm - making your own Goldenrod oxymels!
12:30-1:30pm - Goldenrod paint & Fabric dying
1:30-2:30pm - Paint and play!
OTHER EVENT DETAILS
* No bathrooms at San Felasco
once we start hiking. There is a bathroom near the parking lot.
* Bring water, clothes that are appropriate for hot weather
* Possible ticks
* Must be comfortable outside, standing for awhile, sitting on grass, walking etc.
* Everything you bring for your hike, you must be able to carry for atleast 15 minutes.
* You are welcome top bring a blanket or chair to sit in, but you have to be able to carry it.
* Bring your own lunch and snacks
* Bring your own fabric to dye with Goldenrod- white cotton is best
* Instructors will provide a detailed map- driving instructions/send pins, phone numbers

If you need a refund for any reason, you can write info@athousnadleavesherbshop.com. No refunds will be given after September 19th. Before then, you can get a refund, but we will deduct a processing fee of $15.

Melissa is a local artist, seed saver, gardener and co-founder of Working Food. Her art is inspired by the natural world around her, and includes colors made from plants and other earth materials. LeAnn is the founder of A Thousand Leaves Herb Shop, weaving a love for deep ecology, medicinal plants, and vitalism into her work as a community and clinical herbalist.
